Hace 47 años nacía en Murphy Mauricio Roberto Pochettino Romero. Desde pibe ya se destacaba en ese pueblo de cuatro mil habitantes del sur de Santa Fe, lo que provocó que se tuviera que mudar a Rosario para hacer las inferiores en Newell’s.
Ahora, aquel chico hace historia en Europa. Porque a los 47 años, como entrenador de Tottenham, acaba de clasificar a la final de la Champions League de una manera milagrosa jugando contra el poderoso Ajax.
Pochettino llegó al Tottenham en 2014 y lo fue moldeando a su manera, con algunas cosas que le enseñó Marcelo Bielsa cuando fue su técnico en Newell’s y con el que salió campeón de la temporada 90/91.
Fue “el Loco” el que lo descubrió en Murphy y se lo llevó a Rosario. Fiel a su estilo, lo hizo de una manera muy particular: Pochettino dormía, pero Bielsa y Jorge Griffa (histórico descubridor de talentos) lo querían ver, y fueron a su habitación. “Quisieron ver mis piernas, y mi mamá me destapó, dijeron que tenía pinta de futbolista, y se fueron”.
Allí comenzaría su carrera como futbolista, que se terminaría en el Espanyol en el 2006. En Argentina sólo jugó en el equipo rosarino y después se fue a España y Francia.
Como entrenador comenzó en el conjunto en el que se retiró, luego pasó al Southampton y llegó sin demasiados pergaminos al Tottenham que hoy está en boca de todos.
En el camino, Pochettino dejó la relación con su familia. De un momento a otro dejó de hablar con sus padres y eso le duele. Lo mismo le sucedió con sus hermanos. “Es más, tengo la peor relación que podría esperar. Me unen más lazos emocionales con amigos o conocidos. ¿Cómo se llega hasta ahí? Son preguntas válidas, porque no quiero que ocurra entre mis hijos”, le contó al reconocido periodista español Guillem Balagué para el libro Un mundo nuevo.
Allí, Mauricio revela que tiene consigo una foto de cuando era muy chico en el pueblo santafesino. ”Debía tener dos años. Estaba frente a un galpón que mi padre había construido. El pasto se ve alto, y yo, agarrado a una pelota de fútbol, con una sonrisa de oreja a oreja, feliz. Miro esa foto a menudo para no olvidar que ese soy yo, no el que veo ahora en el espejo”.
