El tandilense Juan Martín Del Potro estuvo a una pelota de coronar su retorno al circuito tras casi tres meses de ausencia con una victoria, pero no pudo ser. El serbio Laslo Djere upo recuperarse a tiempo, y terminó echándolo del Masters 1000 de Madrid.

Tras 2 horas 22 minutos de partido, llevado a cabo en el estadio “Arantxa Sánchez Vicario” de la “Caja Mágica” de Madrid, Del Potro (8 del ranking de la ATP) sucumbió ante Djere (32) por 3-6, 6-2 y 7-5.

Si bien es innegable que la inactividad dejó huellas, en el balance general del partido las sensaciones que tras la presentación de Del Potro fueron buenas.

El tandilense pareció abstraído de su problema en la rodilla derecha, y por momentos jugó bastante suelto, algo que le permitió golpear con dureza tanto con su drive como con el saque (ganó el 82 por ciento de sus puntos con su primer servicio y metió 11 aces), para desbordar a Djere.

Ese combo, más algunos errores del serbio, permitió que Del Potro quedara en el décimo game del tercer set a un punto de quedarse con el partido, cuando estuvo 5-4, y 40-30 con el saque de Djere.

Sin embargo, tras conservar su saque, el serbio aprovechó aciertos propios y errores, varios de ellos no forzados, de Del Potro, para quedarse con los dos games siguientes (quebró el saque del argentino en el undécimo juego cediendo apenas un punto), y llevarse el partido.

Del Potro regresó. Mostró pinceladas de su tenis, no se sintió cien por ciento cómodo, en gran medida porque se encontró con un rival que venía en buena forma (Djere había ganado 11 de sus últimos 13 partidos en polvo de ladrillo), algo que, inevitablemente, se sintió en los momentos decisivos.
