El goleador santafesino Brian Fernández tiene nuevo club. Y para decepción de los hinchas de Colón, cada vez se va más lejos de Santa Fe. Porque el delantero dejó México, donde tuvo un paso muy exitoso por Necaxa, y se va a Estados Unidos, a jugar al Portland Timbers.

El club norteamericano pagó la cláusula de rescisión y se llevó al delantero. Ya le dio la bienvenida, por lo que Brian en breve vestirá la camiseta de esta institución que fue fundada el 20 de marzo de 2009 cuando la Major League Soccer, le dio una plaza.

El Protland Timbers tiene a varios argentinos en su plantilla, por lo que Brian tendrá con quién compartir los mates. Allí juegan Diego Valeri, Sebastián Blanco, Tomás Conechny y Lucas Melano. Hacen de local en el Providence Park, sede de la franquicia desde sus orígenes, y el cual cuenta con una capacidad para 21.144 espectadores, todos ellos sentados.

Los Timbers ganaron su primer título en 2013 cuando lograron conquistar la temporada regular de la Conferencia Oeste. A su vez, se convirtió en el primer campeón de la Major League Soccer de la región de la Cascadia cuando ganaron la Copa MLS 2015. En la final, jugada el 6 de diciembre de ese año, vencieron por 2 a 1 al Columbus Crew en el Mapfre Stadium con goles de Diego Valeri y Rodney Wallace.
