El instituto Rawson en la ciudad de Paraná fue el escenario para un acontecimiento sin precedentes a nivel mundial. El pasado 10 de mayo una mujer dio a lúz a dos pares de gemelos en la clínica de la ciudad entrerriana.

El hecho recorrió varios portales nacionales e internacionales. Y es que, no se trata “simplemente” de cuatrillizos, sino de dos pares de gemelos. Los profesionales explicaron que este fenómeno biológico tiene muy pocas chances de ocurrir.

Hasta el momento se mantiene la confidencialidad del caso, aunque se sabe que la pareja, oriunda de Concepción del Uruguay, llevaba más de dos años en la búsqueda de ser padres.

Conceptualmente, los gemelos son producto de la división de un embrión en dos embriones de igual material genético; según la Sociedad Argentina de Medicina Reproductiva (SAMER), la incidencia de gemelación de un embrión es del 0,4 a 0,3%, mientras que la tasa de gemelación de dos embriones a la vez –como es este caso– es tan baja, que ni siquiera está publicada a nivel mundial.

Hasta el momento se mantiene la confidencialidad del caso, aunque se sabe que la pareja, oriunda de Concepción del Uruguay, llevaba más de dos años en la búsqueda de ser padres; luego de varios intentos y expectativas frustradas, llegaron al Centro de Reproducción Asistida de Paraná HAVVA con la ilusión de encarar un tratamiento que les permitiera concretar el postergado anhelo.

Así, en octubre de 2018 se realizó la transferencia de “dos embriones de 8 células, día 3, 72 horas postfecundación”, detalla la doctora Mercedes Cabrera (M.P. 9405) y luego, sucedió lo inesperado: “Nuestra paciente desarrolló algo poco común en la biología del desarrollo embrionario y fetal: gestar en forma simultánea dos niñas con igual código genético, cada cual con sus bolsas amnióticas, que surgieron de un solo ovocito y un solo espermatozoide; y a la vez dos varoncitos, cada cual con sus bolsas amnióticas, e idéntico código genético, que surgieron de un solo ovocito y un solo espermatozoide”.
